This book is about nightclub security and has given me some wonderful ideas because that is what I do.

I was resolved to provide a complete handbook for doormen on the ins and outs of the nightclub business when I started writing this book.
No one taught me what to do, how to act, or what to say when I first started working as a doorman.
I learned how to execute my work by trial and error, experience, study, and listening to industry veterans.
I watched so many people enter the “racket” with no training or knowledge of what they were doing.
Worse, I saw folks who had been doormen for years who might have used some good old-fashioned training.
I thought about writing a book about what it takes to be a doorman.
It’s not as simple as it appears.
Is it possible for me to create a book about nightclub security? It is ultimately up to you to make that decision.
What I bring to the table is my expertise as a doorman, several years of dispute resolution experience, and a cool head on my shoulders.
What I do know is that everyone has a distinct learning curve and should finally judge themselves using their own yardstick.
I make no claim to be an expert.
I believe there is no such thing as mastery in whatever we do.
If if life were that simple and straightforward.
This book is intended for managers, owners, old timers (experienced doormen), greeners (new doormen), and those who are just interested in the nightclub industry.
When you stop listening to people talk about their experiences, you stop learning.
A real expert is a life student who listens, adjusts, and learns to the end.”
