This is a compilation of Born Warriors project releases, essentially including all three prior DVDs and a bonus disc. You’ll notice that some video is repeated as a result when you watch it. Disc 1 – Born Warriors – In this first documentary, shot prior to Myanmar’s democratic reform period, we are taken into the world of bare-knuckle fighting, which has mostly survived in rural villages; we witness the unbridled sacrifice and passion of a small group of promoters, fighters, and trainers who attempt to keep the sport alive in the major cities despite an obvious lack of means and support. Disc 2 – Born Warriors Redux – Born Warriors Redux revisits the traditional Burmese sport of Lethwei as its practitioners face an uncommon set of problems as Myanmar opens up to the outside world.
Lethwei is an ancient bare-knuckle fighting sport that functioned as a rite of passage into manhood and trained men for war. Today, the sport represents power and physical skill for the people of Myanmar, who have been beaten down and robbed of their pride and dignity for decades by a ruthless military government. This amazing first-person description of Lethwei was shot in numerous locations around Myanmar. Disc 3 – Born Warriors, Bound Fists – Born Warriors Redux: Bound Fists delves into the present and ancient world of Lethwei, demonstrating how its deep cultural roots and traditions continue to reverberate and maintain value in Myanmar’s fast-changing world. This special Director’s edition cut builds on and delves deeper into rural contests. CD 4 is a bonus disc. This Bonus Disc is exclusive to the 3 and 4 disc deluxe versions. This unique presentation includes the newly updated documentary Born to Battle: Burma vs. Thailand, as well as expanded cuts of Fight Day and Bouts from the Archives Part 2, which offer rare and unseen archive video that immerses the audience in the competitive world of Lethwei.
