Dan Faggella – How to Armbar Anyone

Ever wanted to win an open weight BJJ tournament but felt too little to compete with the bigger guys in your age group? That is something Dan Faggella has been able to achieve over the previous few years. He genuinely is a master of everything he preaches in this book, as seen by Dan Faggella vs the Giant on YouTube. Faggella appears to be about 100 pounds lighter than his 240-pound opponent, yet it only takes him 12 seconds to lock in a toe-hold and clinch third place in the expert absolute class. Many of his maneuvers rely on leg locks, toe-holds, and other similar movements, which is to be anticipated. When fighting against people that have the same skill level as you but are significantly larger, there is no incentive to try to armbar, triangle choke, or kimura them. They can get out on strength alone with the kimura and armbar, and a smaller guy is unlikely to lock that technique up against opponents with broad backs with the triangle choke. This book may help anyone improve their game, but the title indicates who it is intended for. Bottom line, this is for smaller BJJ practitioners who want to learn how to submit larger opponents. Every move, method, and theory in this book is designed to help you defeat Goliath when you are David. That’s not to suggest it’s a horrible book. No, this book is fantastic. It provides amazing graphic instructions with each move, great tactics that don’t rely on strength, and may assist keep smaller rollers off the bottom while training against bigger people. Even if you are a bigger roller, this is a fantastic read since it will show you what smaller opponents may utilize against you. When big people roll against smaller opponents, they assume it will be easy because of the size and strength disparity, but if they have read this book, they will know that is not the case. So, in an ultimate competition, be prepared for anyone to surprise you. These are the methods that helped Dan Faggella become an IBJJF brown belt champion and win many Expert Absolute classes in NAGA competitions.
