If you can’t get near in a battle, all of your skills there are meaningless. There are two fundamental methods for closing: striking and blocking. When you have that type of advantage, hitting your way into close ranges is ideal, but when you don’t, attacking blocks are ideal.

The term “Attacking Blocks” appears to be an oxymoron—the word “block” appears to be reactive and defensive—how can one “attack” using blocks? If you know the answer to this question, your combat abilities will take on a whole new dimension, and the door to a world of possibilities will be open to you.

This basic yet intricate pattern allows training partners to practice head protection and attacking blocks while still coming out with a knockout shot.

The following segment of the DVD demonstrates how to utilize the pattern as a “generator” to practice applying concepts in a living manner. The tactics are categorized based on the degree of success of the crash (all the way to the ground, standing grapple, corto, medio, etc.) and include techniques designed specifically for the smaller fighter to utilize against the larger.
