Traditional Endurance and Power Training

Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming, and the YMAA Retreat Center’s full-time kung fu training program students demonstrate different body conditioning activities.

Body fitness is a prerequisite for traditional kung fu training. This program is intended to improve the complete body’s structure in preparation for the demands of martial arts practice. Traditional body-conditioning methods will progressively strengthen your bones, joints, and muscles, allowing you to build speed, root, and explosive power while avoiding injury. You will become more fit and flexible, your spine and internal organs will be healthier, and your cardiovascular endurance will improve.

Stretching, weight training, tumbling drills, and outdoor training methods such as jogging, rope climbing, and rock throwing are all part of body conditioning. This total-body workout is supplemented with qigong meditation practices, which are fundamental to all martial arts forms. Dr. Yang, Jwing-Ming discusses the principles of meditation, including posture, the circulatory system of qi (energy), and how to correctly practice Qigong Meditation to boost your martial prowess.

Dr. Yang will teach you Embryonic Breathing, Laogong Breathing, Yongquan Breathing, Four Gates Breathing, and Martial Arts Grand Circulation one-on-one.
