ABOUT GEORGES “RUSHMOND” ST. PERE:
He began taking Kyokushin karate at the age of seven to protect himself against a school bully and was born on May 19, 1981 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
[1] After his Karate master died, he picked up Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), and he has also trained in wrestling and boxing.
He’s wanted to be a UFC champion since he saw Royce Gracie fight at UFC 1 in 1993.
[2]
St. Pierre works out with the Triumph Fight Team, as well as the Canadian National Wrestling Team.
He trained at the Renzo Gracie Jiu Jitsu Academy in New York City prior to his bout with B.J. Penn at UFC 58.
On July 21, 2006, St.Pierre obtained his brown belt in BJJ from Renzo Gracie [3].
St.Pierre was previously a member of the BTT Canada MMA team.
Despite being a Canadian boxer, St.Pierre feels he is more popular in the United States than in Canada.
“When I go down the street in the United States, everyone recognizes me, so I don’t really have a private existence…
“In Canada, though, no one knows who I am,” St.Pierre explains.
