Joseph Simonet – You’re Already Dead Set
You’ve already made up your mind.
Volume One of You’re Already Dead: Surprise an Attacker with Counterattack Tactics
While salmon fishing on Lake Michigan, long-time martial artist and best-selling Paladin author Joseph Simonet had the idea for this film. You would think this is an odd notion for such a lovely location. However, as most of us are aware, horrible things do happen in good locations… even to nice people. While Simonet was enjoying the scenery and fishing, he and his companions were interrupted by a man he called Johnny Law, who had nothing else to do except bother them with his pompous rantings. As the intruder got increasingly irritating, Simonet thought about how simple it would be to eliminate him with a few decisive movements. “Dude, you’re already dead, and you have no idea,” Simonet giggled to himself.
Realizing how fast an unprepared person may be taken out if assaulted unexpectedly, Simonet devised a set of swift defenses and counterattacks that he would employ in such situations. He devised the supported-elbow frame defense, which is extremely effective against a frontal upper body attack. Simonet has regularly refined it since then, with changes driven by real-life combat lessons. You’re Already Dead demonstrates how it is not just an excellent cage defensive system, but also an effective counterattack launching mechanism. Check out this basic, adaptable defensive system to avoid being caught off guard by a surprise fatal assault.
Volume Two of You’re Already Dead: Be the Wolf
Recognizing how fast an unprepared individual might be taken out if assaulted unexpectedly, Joseph Simonet devised a set of procedures and strategies that he would employ in similar situations. Simonet taught the upgraded supported-elbow frame defense method in the first volume of You’re Already Dead: Surprise an Attacker with Counterattack Tactics. He now evaluates the benefits and drawbacks of Filipino martial art training techniques in the second volume, You’re Already Dead 2: Be the Wolf.
Working through the flow drills step by step, Simonet explains that while these drills are certainly beneficial, they may also be harmful in a real fight. From zoning to zero pressure, the six-count sambrada, rooftop blocks, inside sweeps, and the poli sute of pekiti tirsia to full arsenal demonstrations of the flow drills cons, Simonet graphically demonstrates why martial arts drills may not work on the streets – and may even get you seriously injured or killed.
Even while these martial arts routines promote mobility and agility, all of which are valuable attributes for a fighter, they may fail you when confronted with a brutal and violent street confrontation. Simonet suggests a simple mental exercise to help you recall this: spell “flow” backwards… you get “wolf.” The wolf mindset is essential in a fight to the death. When you’re being attacked, you can’t only protect and block; you have to block and attack at the same time. You must bite if you wish to be the wolf.
