Massimo di Villadorata – The Rhythm of Aikido
Massimo di Villadorata, an Italian master, demonstrates the importance of rhythm in aikido practice.
The planets’ motion has a pattern.
An atom’s motion has a beat.
The heartbeat and breathing are both rhythmic.
All body processes have a rhythm that is in sync with the rhythm of day and night, as well as the rhythm of the seasons.
We suffer pain, disease, and sadness when the rhythm is disrupted.
Conflicting rhythms lead to conflict and bloodshed.
The goal of Aikido is to notice this condition and instantly remedy any sort of physical or mental conflict.
The rhythm of Aikido is formed when an attack is evaded and its energy is smoothly and seamlessly redirected toward its source.
The focus on rhythm over power elevates Aikido practice from a set of techniques to an artistic expression.
From a violent sport to a dispute mediation approach.
From a type of physical training to a route toward developing the individual as a physically and psychologically fit being.
This DVD teaches basic techniques, randori, suwariwaza, and hanmi handachi.
Bonus video of demonstrations from 1969 to 1987 is also included.
The DVD features the Rhythm of Aikido feature as well as old extra films from 1970s training and demos.
