Red Zone Knife Defence
Danger Area Our empty-handed weapon defense course at Centerline Gym is known as “The Red Zone” curriculum.
When it comes to protecting ourselves against harm caused by weapons, we place a premium on learning as much as possible rather than amassing skills.
These methods rely only on gross motor skills, making them easier to access in a tense situation.
When things go south, we won’t do well if we try to depend too heavily on fine or complicated motor abilities.
To get out of the situation as quickly as feasible is the objective of any realistic weapons defense program.
Many people who profess to teach self-defense with an edged weapon only give lip service to evasion and escape while spending much too much time demonstrating overly complicated disarms and counters.
The goal of escaping the Red Zone is central to the training.
This means that our strategies and training are geared on opening up an exit route as soon as possible.
However, if we find ourselves in a situation where we must resort to physical conflict, there are some techniques we may employ to significantly lessen the harm we sustain.
When getting away isn’t an option, our strategy centers on taking control of the arm with the weapon.
This is accomplished in a few distinct methods, each tailored to a certain form of assault.
As soon as we seize the weapon limb, we must take a position of control from which to launch a counterattack.
We do this by adopting a variety of postures, including the baseball bat and a reworked 2-on-1.
Similar to how Brazilian Jiu Jitsu uses positional control to hit and submit an opponent, these postures may be moved through to cope with a fast changing circumstance.
Once we’re in a dominant position, we may launch an assault on the aggressor and put a stop to the conflict.
In addition to the practical training, we also aim to debunk some of the more pervasive misconceptions about knife defense (we will get to some of these later).
Force-on-force drills and defense against various static attacks are also discussed (knife at throat etc.)
Both Red Zone DVDs have been a global success.
The RZ curriculum is now being taught to armed forces and law enforcement agencies across the globe.
All the responses have been fantastic.
Here, we will continue to share program updates and training insights that complement the information presented in the DVD set.
