There are no frills or thrills in these motions and how to expand their application into short power, strategic offensive positioning, and the deadly realities involved with weapons training—and that there must be a clear division between reality (real time speed, stress, and risk) and practice.
Rene Latosa began his studies in 1968 with instructors such as Dentoy Revillar, Serrada style: Max Sarmiento, Cadena de Mano style: Leo Giron, Larga Mano style; and Angel Cabales, Serrada style.
His father, Juan Latosa, was, nonetheless, the most important individual in his life.
The teaching he received from his father was far from simple or comforting.
The older Latosa moulded Rene’s mind with the foundation framework that would one day become the Latosa Escrima system, and formed him in the harshest and most challenging components of traditional Filipino arts.
Rene Latosa is noted for never withholding anything from his pupils and for openly sharing his expertise and experiences.
