Some people make their own storms and then become outraged when the hurricane damages their home. Your workout decisions are wreaking havoc on your body, so you seek calm in the midst of the storm. You attempt to sleep, but you can’t.
You attempt to sleep, but it doesn’t help. You attempt yoga, but you can’t get into the poses and are possibly injured as a result.
Traditional yoga is not for you, by definition. You’re either for it, for the tradition, or you’re not, and you’re “diluting” the tradition. Only Progressive yoga will allow you to compensate for the challenges of your lifestyle, so that you can respond to the warning signals of postural dysfunction, muscular tightness, and hormonal imbalance before your body adapts to these problems for the modern individual, who has a high-stress job, finances, activities, and frankly “real” concerns on time.
The most hazardous communication problem we have with our bodies is that we don’t listen to them to comprehend them; instead, we yell demands over the silent messages they send back.
If you pay attention to your internal messages, you may modify your yoga practice with the clear goal of effectively adapting to all the stresses in your life, including exercise stress, and minimizing dysfunctional adaptation. When you exercise, work, or play, you get more out of it with fewer negative results (such as stiffness, pain, aches, and limits).
Surgeons, operators, pilots, tactical first responders, hostage negotiators, and other high-stress jobs have embraced progressive yoga. It has spread because yoga was never intended to be the ultimate objective. Progress was made.
